Hula hooping is back and it’s not just for kids on the playground! This new fun fitness technique is a major hit with celebrities and normal folk alike! Using a weighted hoop of about 1.5 – 2 lbs you create resistance and the constant movement burns calories while targeting your core. Studies have actually shown proof that hooping can reduce visceral fat, which is that stubborn stuff on your tummy. This makes me jump for joy! As a new mom, activating my core is what I need to work on, so I’m SO ready for some hoop dancing!
Celebrities like Kelly Osborne, Zooey Deschanel, Michelle Obama, and Beyonce have all been seen enjoying a good hoop workout. And you know my motto girls, if its good enough for Bey, its good enough for me!
So how do you get started? First, get yourself a hoop. A nice weighted one with resistance bands will be best, not the ones at the toy store. I like these travel ones from Hoopnotica. Next you need to learn the basics. You can start by signing up for a class in your area, just do a quick search and see what you find! If you can find anything local, you can always do it from your own home. There are some great DVDs available from beginner to advanced.
