I am not sure what my family will be doing this weekend. We might take part in one of the above mentioned events since we’ll be staying local. But growing up, one of my favorite destinations for Memorial Day Weekend was the City of Solvang in Santa Barbara County, California.
I tried relentlessly to dig up some old photos, but to no avail! I haven’t been there in a long long time. But I loved biting into warm aebleskiver with its tangy, sweet raspberry sauce and sprinkling of powdered sugar.
Other than walking around eating tasty snacks and looking at the quaint Dane-inspired architecture, I mostly remembered the ride from the San Fernando Valley to Solvang. My two brothers and I sat in the back of my dad’s Suburban with all the seats down and a tiny little VHS player propped up in front of us. Seat belt laws weren’t as strict then!
I suppose it’s true that the journey is often more important than the destination! So if you’re heading out with the family, enjoy the ride!
