5 Easy Hairstyles For Working Out

Just because you might turn into a hot, sweaty mess after a good workout doesn’t mean your hair has to. Nothing kills your yoga vibe like sweaty bangs, or wet hair whipping you in the face while you’re trying to downward dog it. I’ve put together some of my favorite easy hairstyles for working out that are designed to go beyond the gym and help you feel your best before, after, and during your workout.

1. Reverse Braid Top Knot

A twist on the typical topknot- the braided top knot is an easy way to keep those underneath fly-aways in check. Flip your head upside down and braid hair, incorporating more into the section each time until you get to your ideal bun spot and secure all hair with an elastic. Donut roll (pictured above) is optional depending on the workout you’ll be doing. If you choose to disregard the donut, simply twist your hair around itself in a knot on the top of your head.

2. Easy Knot Bun

This one is effortless yet chic and can be taken from work to the gym just like these long flex leggings. Separate your hair into two halves in the back of your head. Take the two pieces and tie them in a knot, braid remaining hair and twist it around the knot. Secure with an elastic and bobby pins- spray for hold.

3. Boxer Braids & Ballerina Bun

This is my #1 go to workout hairstyle. It does take a little more time than the others depending on your french braiding skills (I’m not very good at it so it takes me longer). Start by separating your hair down the middle and securing one side with an elastic to keep it out of the way. French braid the first side in small very tight sections by incorporating more hair from the sides each time you bring a piece to the middle of the braid. Secure the first side with an elastic at the nape of your neck while you braid the other side to keep it in place. Bring both sides together at the name of your neck and secure with an elastic. Twist remaining hair around the elastic into a bun. Voila! You’re done.

4. Side Braid Ponytail

This one is very helpful for gals with bangs and helps keep them out of your face. Part hair on the side and braid the top section on the dominant side until it reaches the back of your hair. Gather remaining hair into a ponytail including the braid and secure with an elastic. Take an extra strand of hair from the ponytail, wrap it around the elastic, and secure with a bobby pin.

5. Mohawk Braid Ponytail

This is very similar to the side braid pony except that instead of creating a braid on the side, you’ll be doing it in the middle. Separate a section of hair in the front-middle of your head and french braid until you reach your idea ponytail spot and secure braid with a small elastic. Slightly pull the sides of the braid to make it larger and more voluminous. Gather remaining hair and the braid section into a ponytail and secure with an elastic. Tease the tail for extra volume.
