You may have seen a pin or two (thousand) on pinterest about using activated charcoal. So I’ve done my research and I think I’m about to jump on the charcoal bandwagon! Its like the coconut oil of minerals, yea?! A cure all, a perfectly natural and harmless thing that makes all your problems go away instantly! Ok, maybe I’m getting a little ahead of myself, but there are 3 main uses that I want to try with this miracle substance.
1) Teething Whitening
I’m a coffee & wine kinda gal, so it does not leave me with pretty pearly whites for teeth. I’ve tried all sorts of products but never really see results that make it worth it to me. Nor do I have the kind of money to be in the dentist chair for a whitening every few weeks to keep up with the damage I cause. So…This was a no-brainer for me. People claim near instant results and you can keep using it until you get your desired shade of white! I think I’ll stop at “Blind me” White. All you do is take a capsule, crack it open into a little bowl, get a wet toothbrush and make a paste in your mouth, brushing as normal. After 3-5 minutes, rinse it out and see your results! I’ve heard varying recommendations for how often, but once a week seems like a good start.
2) Face Mask
Since the activated charcoal is absorbent, it pulls toxins out of your system. This makes it a great ingredient in a face mask. Mix it up with your favorite natural face clay and watch as your face feels fresher and cleaner than ever before! You may need to add a little oil or a good moisturizer after though, because I hear the charcoal can be a little drying.
3) Air Purification
Based on the same principle, activated charcoal can absorb toxins and odors in the air. Many companies sell expensive versions of this, but you can make your own pretty easily. Just check out the tutorial here on how to make pouches you can use in your home, car or office!
There you have it! There are so many more ways to use activated charcoal in your daily life, but these 3 seem the most appealing to me. I’m gonna go grab me a bottle tonight! What about you?
